Kathmandu’s streets are home to more than half a million vehicles. 800 traffic police daily try to control the resulting traffic – on all major junctions of the city. The fact that many drivers did not receive proper training and any rules and road signs are widely ignored makes this job one big challenge.
No wonder the traffic police regularly lose their temper when faced with this chaos on the roads. Now they are receiving a very special training: Nepalese film and television stars teach them how to be polite and control their temper at work.
Many complaints have been received about the traffic police being rude and intemperate. It is hoped the training will help the police remain calm while under pressure.
