A fixed amount of the income from the adventures they offer is used for local development projects on health, education, women empowerment and micro finance, and to maintain local infrastructure. Waste water is handled in septic systems and kitchen waste composted. To reduce plastic waste cheap water bottle refills are offered, plastic waste is taken to recycling facilities. The Last Resort started community initiatives, such as a collective organic vegetable garden, in an area where up to then only grain was grown. Another initiative was the development of alternative fuel sources: they started turning dead organic matter into charcoal briquettes to replace the use of fuelwood. This projects is now providing a group of villagers with independent income, as they took over the business.
