Volunteering Nepal – Village Homestay 56 day tour

Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Pokhara, Bhimad

This programme is an opportunity to go volunteering in Nepal for 8 weeks. In the first few days you will receive a short introduction to Nepali in Kathmandu. You will stay in village homestays to participate in the local community. Get to know life in Nepal and, according to your skills, help families in need, the local school or small scale projects.

Itinerary

Day 01
Depart UK


Day 02
Kathmandu
Meet our representative at the airport and transfer to hotel. The rest of the day is free. Take your time in the evening to take in your surroundings and adjusting to Kathmandu.


Day 03 – B
Kathmandu
After breakfast receive an hour briefing on your tour and an introduction on Nepal and its tradition.

Then drive to Pashupatinath Temple, with its astonishing architectural beauty, stands as a symbol of faith, religion, culture and tradition. Regarded as the most sacred temple of Hindu Lord Shiva in the world, Pashupatinath Temple’s existence dates back to 400 A.D. It draws wandering Sadhus from all over India.

A short walk away you will find Boudhanath, one of the largest Buddhist Stupas in the world. Around here you will experience vibrant and unfettered Tibetan culture from the large community of Tibetan exiles.

Today’s tour is an ideal experience to compare and contrast the different faiths but also see how they overlap and exist in harmony.


Day 04 – B L
Kathmandu
In the morning learn some Nepali language for 2-3 hours and be culturally orientated! Then go out with your teacher/guide on a walking tour to explore the old city of Kathmandu.

Visit Durbar Square, which is listed as a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage site. It is a cluster of ancient temples, palaces, courtyards and streets dating back to the 12th and 18th centuries.


Day 05 – B
Kathmandu
In the morning you will receive another 2-3 hours lessons on language and culture.

In the afternoon visit Swayambhunath, situated on the top of a hill west of Kathmandu. The temple is colloquially known as the ‘monkey temple’ because of the large tribe of roving monkeys who guard it.


Day 06 – B
Kathmandu |Bhaktapur | Kathmandu
In the morning you will visit Bhaktapur. This is the city of devotes and the best preserved of all the ancient cities of Kathmandu Valley. Bhaktapur is the most original and is without a doubt the most historically authentic city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is literally a living museum where farmers dry their harvest, potters turn their wheel and people go about lives as they have done for so long.

En route visit the Changunarayan Temple. this is the oldest temple in Kathmandu valley, it came into existence in the 4th century. Return to Kathmandu in the evening.


Day 07 – B
Kathmandu |Pokhara
After an early breakfast, drive to Pokhara by Greenline Tourist Bus (Approx. 7hrs). Meet our representative and transfer to hotel. The rest of the day is free for independent activities.

Pokhara lies within a beautiful valley situated at a height of 915m and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful places in the whole world.


Day 08 – B
Pokhara
In the early Morning you will head off to Sarangkot, a beautiful village best known for its sunrise. On a clear day you will have an unobstructed view of the dramatic peaks of the Himalaya. Return to the hotel for breakfast.

Later you will cross Phewa Lake by boat and hike to the World Peace Pagoda (1-2hrs). The Pagoda is a massive Buddhist stupa situated on top of a hill on the southern shore of Phewa Lake. Besides being an impressive sight in itself, the shrine is a great vantage point which offers spectacular views of the Annapurna range and Pokhara city.

The rest of the day is free for your own exploration.


Day 09 – B
Pokhara
After breakfast take a half-day guided tour of Pokhara’s natural beauty: see the Gupteshor Mahadev Caves, Devi’s Fall, and visit the Mountain Museum. The rest of the day is free for independent activities.


Day 10 – B D
Pokhara | Rainbow Children’s Home
In the afternoon you will head to the Rainbow Children’s Home in Pokhara, where you are going to stay for the next week.

This Children’s home is dedicated to providing the orphaned, poor and marginalized children of Nepal with nutritious food, clean water, quality education and most importantly a loving, secure family and home.


Day 11-17 – B L D

Volunteering at Rainbow Children’s Home. Meals and overnight stay at Children’s Home.


Day 18 – B
Pokhara|Bhimad
In the late morning you will drive to Bhimad. It is a small village with a lot of natural scenery and beauty. Take your lunch there, walk around the local bazaar and visit the village hospital and school. Dinner and overnight at family home.


Day 19 – B L D
Bhimad | Chhangpatan
After breakfast visit the Denmark project, about 30 minutes walk away. Return to the family’s home, collect your baggage and walk to Chhangpatan, where you will receive a warm welcome by the villagers and your host family. Make yourself comfortable and join your host family for the first warm meal.

Dinner and stay with your host family in village.


Day 20 – 51 – B L D
Village Home Stay
In the next three weeks you will have the possibility to visit different close villages of Bhimad and meet different families. Set up good relations with Nepali people through participatory observation and get to know real village life. Take this opportunity to learn about their culture, tradition, practice and norms.

You will participate in the people’s daily lives and be able to help them with their chores, or maybe even participate in a bigger project.


Day 52 – B
Bhimad|Pokhara
Late morning drive back to Pokhara and check in your hotel. The rest of the day is free.


Day 53 – B
Pokhara | Kathmandu
After an early breakfast drive back to Kathmandu by Greenline Tourist Bus. The evening is free.


Day 54 – B
Kathmandu
The day is free for independent activities.


Day 55 – B D
Kathmandu
Today is free for leisure activities. Enjoy a traditional farewell dinner with cultural programme in the evening.


Day 56 – B
Depart Kathmandu
After breakfast at your hotel, you are free until it is time for us to transfer you to the airport in time for your flight home. Your guide will help you and bid you farewell.

If you wish us to book your international flights, we are able to quote you a price and move ahead if you are happy. Domestic Travel
All domestic travel arrangements are included in your trip; such things can include bus journeys, domestic flights, and airport transfers.

Arrival
You will be met at the airport by our representative who will arrange transportation to the hotel and help you get checked in.
