Royal Enfield Nepal 11 day tour
Itinerary
Day 1 – D
Arrive Kathmandu
Meet our representative at the airport and transfer to hotel. The rest of the day is free. In the evening enjoy a traditional welcome dinner. Your Enfield road captain will join you, so you can start talking about the beautiful old beasts you will be riding from tomorrow.
Day 2 – B L D
Kathmandu | Nuwakot
In the morning you will leave the hotel in a van which will take you to the edge of Kathmandu, out of the totally manic traffic, where your bike will be waiting for you. For the next 65 kilometres you will ride on one of the nicest little mountain roads you could ever imagine.
It will take a little while getting used to the Enfield and the road conditions in Nepal but you don’t have a long day ahead of you, so don’t fret, just enjoy riding your own classic in the Himalayas! Your target today is the town of Trisuli, from where you have 5km up to the old fortress town of Nuwakot. Here you check into your hotel and enjoy a well deserved shower and a cold beer!
Day 3 – B L D
Nuwakot | Bandipur
Today you have a big ride ahead of you. 140 km might not sound a lot you, but will find that you will probably average 25-30 km/h on your ride around Nepal, so you will have a few hours in the saddle today.
For most of today you will ride along the Trisuli and Marshyangdi river valleys. There are 17 km of dirt road which gives you a good opportunity to slow down and take in the villages along the river, well worth it as they are quite different from the ones you can see along the highways and up in the hills.
You will stop for a local lunch in one of the many towns along the main Kathmandu to Pokhara highway, which you join after the first 30 km. In the afternoon you leave the Trisuli river and join the Marshyangdi river valley and, if the weather is clear, you will see the Annapurnas for the first time shortly afterwards. Your final 12km are on a tiny little mountain road up to the hamlet of Bandipur, an old Newar trading town with magnificent mountain views in clear weather.
Day 4 – B L D
Bandipur | Pokhara
Pokhara is only 65 km away now, so you should be able to reach there in time for lunch by the lake in one of the good restaurants. You will stay next to Phewa Lake, where you get spectacular views of Machhapuchhare (the sacred and unclimbed Fishtail Mountain) and three of the world’s 8,000m peaks, Daulagiri, Manaslu, and Annapurna.
If the weather is clear you might go for another little Enfield ride up to Sarangkot, a view point outside Pokhara, in time for sunset with the Annapurna massif in the background.
Day 5 – B L D
Pokhara | Chitwan
Today you will hit the road for Chitwan 150km away. You will make out way back the highway to Mugling where you turn south and head out of the hills. Arrive in Chitwan well before sunset and settle in at the bar for some nice drinks. It is overlooking the river and, incredibly from this altitude and distance away, with views to the Himalayas in clear weather!
Day 6 – B L D
Chitwan National Park
This is a day never to be forgotten – a full day of Safari Action including wildlife viewing from elephant back, jungle walks, bird-watching, Landrover drives, river safari, elephant camp visit, wildlife viewing and photographing from machans (blinds). All wildlife activities are escorted by an experienced naturalist who will astound you with knowledge of all things big and small.
Wildlife in Chitwan National Park includes the greater one-horned rhinoceros, spotted deer, hog deer, sambar deer, barking deer as well as a wide variety of birdlife. With a bit of luck, there is even the chance of glimpsing a leopard, sloth bear and Royal Bengal tiger.
Day 7 – B L D
Chitwan National Park | Kathmandu
You leave Chitwan mid morning for your final day of riding, and what a day it is! The first 60 km are on the flat roads of the Terai, riding along with the National Park on your south side. You leave the Terai at Hetauda and head up into the hills to Bhimphedi. This is where in the old days people would get off the horse cart or vehicle and start walking for 2-3 days to get to Kathmandu. The first car that came to Kathmandu was carried in over the mountains from here; you won’t believe it when you see the hill in front of you!
You will stop for lunch in Bhimphedi and maybe even have a look at Nepal’s second oldest hospital. After lunch you start climbing up over the first row of hills towards Kathmandu. It is an amazing little road with hairpin bend after hairpin bend and suddenly you are at the top overlooking the Himalayas once again. From here you descend on an equally amazing road to the bottom of the Kulekhani Hydro electricity dam.
Here the action really starts: you now have almost 20 km of dirt road to climb back into the Kathmandu Valley, entering from the southernmost end of the Valley. Once you reach the top and enter the valley you again have amazing views of the Valley and the mountains beyond – but keep your eyes on the road!
Finally, after an incredible day’s riding you enter Kathmandu and ride through the mad traffic to the hotel and a well deserved shower. In the evening you will head out for a celebratory dinner in one of Kathmandu’s finest restaurants.
Day 8 – B
Kathmandu
Rest in the morning. In the afternoon visit Swayambhunath, situated on the top of a hill west of Kathmandu. The temple is colloquially known as the ‘monkey temple’ because of the large tribe of roving monkeys who guard it.
Day 9 – B
Kathmandu
Visit Patan Durbar Square containing some of the finest Newari urban architecture in all of Nepal.
In the afternoon visit Pashupatinath, one of the most important Hindu temples of Lord Shiva in the world. It draws wandering Sadhus from all over India.
A short walk away you will find Boudhanath, one of the largest Buddhist Stupas in the world. Around here you will experience vibrant and unfettered Tibetan culture from the large community of Tibetan exiles.
Today’s tour is an ideal experience to compare and contrast the different faiths but also see how they overlap and exist in harmony.
Day 10 – B D
Kathmandu
Today is free for leisure activities. Enjoy a traditional farewell dinner with cultural programme in the evening.
Day 11 – B
Depart Nepal | Arrive UK
Enjoy a final breakfast, tell one final round of tales about the trip, then you will be transferred to the airport, where your guide will bid you farewell and look forward to your paths crossing again.
