If you are in search for a deeper meaning to your life or simply want to get away from day to day hectic we have got the perfect trip for you: This special holiday takes you to Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal. You will take part in a course to introduce you to Buddhism and meditation. This is an opportunity to deepen your awareness of yourself, other people, and the world around you and give you space to clarify what is essential in your life. A retreat can be a challenging, life changing experience.

Itinerary

Day 01
Depart UK


Day 02 - D
Arrive Kathmandu
Meet our representative at the airport and transfer to hotel. The rest of the day is free. In the evening enjoy an informal welcome dinner, a chance to taste real local cuisine.


Day 03 - B
Kathmandu
In the morning you will take a guided walking tour from the hotel to Durbar Square via the tourist centre Thamel. Durbar Square is listed as a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage site. It is a cluster of ancient temples, palaces, courtyards and streets dating back to the 12th and 18th centuries.

In the afternoon visit Pashupatinath, one of the most important Hindu temples of Lord Shiva in the world. It draws wandering Sadhus from all over India.

A short walk away you will find Boudhanath, one of the largest Buddhist Stupas in the world. Around here you will experience vibrant and unfettered Tibetan culture from the large community of Tibetan exiles.

Today’s tour is an ideal experience to compare and contrast the different faiths but also see how they overlap and exist in harmony.


Day 04 – B
Kathmandu
Morning drive to Bhaktapur, the city of devotes and the best preserved of all the ancient cities of Kathmandu Valley. Bhaktapur is the most original and is without a doubt the most historically authentic city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is literally a living museum where farmers dry their harvest, potters turn their wheel and people go about lives as they have done for so long.

On the way visit Changunarayan Temple. This oldest temple in Kathmandu valley came into existence in 4th century.

In the afternoon visit Swayambhunath, situated on the top of a hill, west of Kathmandu. The temple is colloquially known as the ‘monkey temple’ because of the large tribe of roving monkeys who guard it.


Day 05 – B L D
Kathmandu | Kopan Monastery
Drive to Kopan Monastery, your home for the next ten days to discover Buddhism.


Day 06 -14 - B L D
Kopan Monastery
The regular 10 day introductory course gives an introduction to Tibetan Buddhism, teaches meditation skills and includes a two day analytical and single pointed meditation retreat. The courses are led by western Sangha, with daily teachings from a Tibetan Lama.

Whether you are just interested in Buddhism or experience problems in your life such as uncontrolled emotions or dissatisfaction, this course will give you some skills to address these problems and make your life more fulfilling and meaningful.

The daily schedule consists of meditation sessions, teachings and discussion groups. The course leader, as well as the Tibetan Lamas of the monastery, are available for personal guidance. The daily programme starts at 6.30 am and finishes at 9pm. The participants are expected to attend all sessions. Half day silence is kept as a course discipline.

Meals and overnight in the Monastery.


Day 15 – B
Kopan Monastery | Kathmandu
Drive back to Kathmandu and check in to your hotel. The rest of the day is free.


Day 16    – B D
Kathmandu
Today is free for leisure activities. Enjoy a traditional farewell dinner with cultural programme in evening.


Day 17 – B
Depart Nepal
Drive to the airport, your guide will help you and bid you farewell.

Flight options

International Flights
If you wish us to book your international flights, we are able to quote you a price and move ahead if you are happy. We’d also like to inform you that we are finding our flight prices not as competitive as they used to be and that cheaper fares can be found more readily with online companies or with a specialist high-street flight agents. It is absolutely fine to book your own flights if that means a better deal for you, all we need is to take a note of your flight details to organise our representative to meet you at the airport on arrival at your destination.

We strongly recommend that you book tickets from an ATOL holder, you can check by looking for the ATOL logo in advertisements, brochures and websites.

Domestic Travel
All domestic travel arrangements are included in your trip; such things can include bus journeys, domestic flights, and airport transfers.

Arrival
You will be met at the airport by our representative who will arrange transportation to the hotel and help you get checked in.
