Kathmandu, Nagarkot, Bhaktapur, Lumbini, Chitwan National Park, Pokhara

This journey will take you to the highlights of Nepal with plenty of time to explore. You will learn some Nepali and visit the children in an orphanage in Pokhara. In Chitwan National Park you will go on elephant safari and spot out for rare wildlife and in Lumbini you can discover the historic birthplace of Buddha. Together with the beauty of Nepal’s landscape this holiday will leave nothing to be desired.

Itinerary

Day 01
Depart UK


Day 02 – B
Arrive Kathmandu
Meet our representative at the airport and transfer to hotel. The rest of the day is free.


Day 03 - B
Kathmandu
In the morning learn some Nepali language for 2-3 hours and be culturally orientated! Then go out with your teacher/guide on a walking tour to explore the old city of Kathmandu.

Visit Durbar Square, which is listed as a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage site. It is a cluster of ancient temples, palaces, courtyards and streets dating back to the 12th and 18th centuries.

You will also see the Temple of the Living Goddess, Hanuman Dhoka, the ancient royal residential quarter and the Mahadeva and Parvati Temples.


Day 04 – B D
Kathmandu | Nagarkot
In the early morning drive to Sakhu and hike up to Nagarkot, which will take about 4 hours. For the first hour the path gradually ascends before it becomes a steep hike up to Nagarkot. You will be able to view the magnificent himalayan peaks around you whilst hiking.


Day 05 – B
Nagarkot | Bhaktapur | Kathmandu
Nagarkot is renowned for its spectacular sunrise views of the Himalaya. It is one of the best spots to view the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayan range of eastern Nepal. Today you will get up early to witness this beautiful spectacle.

After breakfast at the hotel you will drive to Bhaktapur. This is the city of devotes and the best preserved of all the ancient cities of Kathmandu Valley. Bhaktapur is the most original and is without a doubt the most historically authentic city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is literally a living museum where farmers dry their harvest, potters turn their wheel and people go about lives as they have done for so long.

Later drive back to Kathmandu and en route visit the Changunarayan Temple. this is the oldest temple in Kathmandu valley, it came into existence in the 4th century.


Day 06 – B
Kathmandu | Lumbini
After breakfast, you will travel overland from Kathmandu to the Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. Lumbini is listed a UNESCO World Heritage Site and revered as the place of holy pilgrimage. It is about 230 km from Kathmandu.

Upon arrival in Lumbini, you will check-in to your hotel then take a walk through the Sacred Lumbini Garden, where the Buddha was born. The exact site is marked by the Ashoka pillar.

Visit the Maya Devi Temple with its bas-relief sculpture depicting Maya Devi: She is holding on to a papal branch with her right hand while giving birth to the infant Buddha, who stands up on a lotus pedestal. Also see Pushkarni pond: the pond where Maya Devi is said to have had a bath before giving birth to Buddha.

Take a stroll around Lumbini’s many monasteries in architectural styles of different nations.


Day 07 – B L D
Lumbini | Chitwan National Park
In the morning drive to Chitwan National Park. You will then be transferred to your resort, where you are offered refreshments, be given a briefing and shown around its facilities. You will receive your programme for the days and your room will be allocated to you.

Take a tour to a nearby ethnic Tharu village where you will learn more about the life and lifestyle of the Tharu. Visit the National Park Visitor’s Centre where you can learn more about the history of the National park and about wildlife. In the evening enjoy the spectacular sunset from the bank of Rapti River before being entertained by a Tharu Cultural Dance presentation by the local villagers or a slideshow presentation.


Day 08 – B L D
Chitwan National Park
Today you will take a canoe ride along Rapti River. This is an excellent opportunity for birdwatching and you might even see two rare species of crocodile: the Marsh Mugger and the Gharial Crocodile.

Later go for a jungle walk, before making friends with an elephant: You have the chance to go elephant bathing on the back of your new friend and play with it in the water. Afterwards take a safari on elephant-back. Stay overnight at the safari lodge. In the evening enjoy a Tharu Cultural Dance presentation or slideshow presentation.


Day 09 – B L D
Chitwan National Park
After breakfast visit the Government Elephant Breeding Centre. In the afternoon you will either drive to the Twenty Thousand Lake or go for another elephant safari.


Day 10 – B
Chitwan National Park | Pokhara
After an early breakfast, drive to Pokhara by Tourist Bus. Meet our representative for transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is free: There are lots of things to do and explore in Pokhara. Go boating, cycling, horse riding, yoga, swimming, paragliding, for a massage or simply relax by the lakeside and enjoy one of the many restaurants.


Day 11 – B
Pokhara | Rainbow Children’s Home
Today you will have some time to look around Lakeside in Pokhara before visiting the Rainbow Children’s Home. It is an orphanage lead by Goma Dhakal to help the poorest children in the area. Learn about their lives, enjoy their hospitality and give them your friendship and a very special day.


Day 12 – B
Pokhara
View sunrise over the beautiful village Sarangkot with stunning views of the Himalaya. Later you will cross Phewa Lake by boat and hike to the World Peace Pagoda (1-2hrs). The Pagoda is a massive Buddhist stupa situated on top of a hill on the southern shore of Phewa Lake. Besides being an impressive sight in itself, the shrine is a great vantage point which offers spectacular views of the Annapurna range and Pokhara city. The rest of the day is free.


Day 13 – B
Pokhara
Today will be free for you to relax and do whatever you like. Take a walk around the village or choose a more exciting activity for your last day in Pokhara. In the evening visit the Rainbow Children’s Home again to say goodbye to the children.


Day 14 – B
Pokhara | Kathmandu
After breakfast drive back to Kathmandu by a tourist bus. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for your own activities.


Day 15 – B
Kathmandu
In the morning visit Pashupatinath, one of the most important Hindu temples of Lord Shiva in the world. It draws wandering Sadhus from all over India.

A short walk away you will find Boudhanath, one of the largest Buddhist Stupas in the world. Around here you will experience vibrant and unfettered Tibetan culture from the large community of Tibetan exiles.

Today’s tour is an ideal experience to compare and contrast the different faiths but also see how they overlap and exist in harmony.

The afternoon is free for leisure activities. Enjoy a traditional farewell dinner with cultural programme in evening.


Day 16 – B
Depart  Kathmandu
Drive to the airport, your guide will help you and bid you farewell.

If you wish us to book your international flights, we are able to quote you a price and move ahead if you are happy. We’d also like to inform you that we are finding our flight prices not as competitive as they used to be and that cheaper fares can be found more readily with online companies or with a specialist high-street flight agents. It is absolutely fine to book your own flights if that means a better deal for you, all we need is to take a note of your flight details to organise our representative to meet you at the airport on arrival at your destination.

Domestic Travel
All domestic travel arrangements are included in your trip; such things can include bus journeys, domestic flights, and airport transfers.
