Essence Of Tibet 8 day tour

Kathmandu, Zhangmu, Nyalam, Tingri, Lhatse, Shigatse, Gyantse, Yamdrok Tso, Lhasa

This 8 days tour will take you to the cradle of Tibetan civilization and show you the essence of Tibetan culture and history. Lavishly decorated huge monasteries and temples, saffron coloured monks, ever smiling people and their typical lifestyle and above all, the challenging Himalayas will make this adventure your most exciting holiday.

Itinerary

Day 01
Kathmandu | Zhangmu | Nyalam
Early in the morning you will start the scenic drive to Kodari (Nepal- Tibet border) through the beautiful Nepalese country side. After necessary border formalities at Nepalese and Chinese immigration, you will continue with an one hour adventurous uphill drive. Today you will stay at Nyalam, the trekking base for this region.

Day 02 – B
Nyalam | Tingri | Lhatse
Today you will drive uphill to the highest plateau of the world: It offers a view of the typical Tibetan landscape. Savour the feeling of standing on the roof of the world! Then you will cross over Lalung la at 5,200m, from where, weather permitting, you will enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the dramatic Himalayan ranges including Mount Cho Oyu (8,201m) and Mount Xishapangma (8,012m). Compared to the vastness of the Tibetan plateau those towering peaks look merely dwarfed. From Tingri you can catch a glimpse of the magnificence of Mount Everest (8,848m). Carry on to Lhatse, where you will stay for the night.

Day 03 – B
Lhatse | Shigatse
Today you will continue the scenic drive crossing over Gyatchu la  (5,220m), the highest pass on your route. You will reach Shigatse today. It is the second largest town of Tibet.

Day 04 – B
Shigatse | Gyantse
In the morning take a sightseeing tour to Panchen Lama’s Tashilumpu Monastery. It is one of the few monasteries to have survived the Cultural Revolution. The monastery is big enough to be a walled town in its own and busy, cobbled lanes twist around the old buildings. Tashilumpu is seat to the Panchen Lama, the second most important spiritual leader of Tibet. Later move on towards Gyantse, where you will stay for tonight. Visit the famous Kumbum Stupa: 35m high with a crown-like golden dome it is truly awe-inspiring. Afterwards have a look at Phalkor Monastery with its fine paintings and statues.

Day 05- B
Gyantse | Yamdrok Tso | Lhasa
Enjoy a full day picturesque drive crossing over Karola and Kambala. You will have stunning views of the colourful Yamdrok Lake and the Tibetan lifeline river Brahmaputra (Yarlung Tsangpo). Arrive at Lhasa, which marks the end of the drive through Tibet.

Day 06 – B
Lhasa
Today it is time to plunge into this amazing city: Start with a visit to Sera monastery, one of the best preserved monasteries in Tibet. After lunch take a look at Norbulingka Park, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. Then you will see the Jokhang Temple, an unrivalled Tibetan experience: Assimilate the smell of Yak butter and the murmur of mantras. The temple is surrounded by the Barkhor market, where you will stroll through the busy lanes that seem to have resisted all invasions of the modern world.

Day 07 – B
Lhasa
Today you will visit the spectacular Potala Palace. It is the most striking landmark in Lhasa and an architectural wonder. You will remember the sight of this fort-like palace for the rest of your life. The palace contains the private quarters of the Dalai Lama and numerous staterooms. After lunch, visit the Drepung Monastery, once one of the largest in the world with 10,000 monks.

Day 08 – B
Lhasa | Kathmandu
Drive to the airport, your guide will help you and bid you farewell.

"Your service is excellent, I am dependant for someone to work out the details – times/connections/prices etc. I am not computer literate, also I am not up-to-date with changes in air travel. So, it has been a huge help to me to have found your office. Many thanks for your help with my travel arrangements. I feel secure with them which helps my nervousness in travelling."
