Itinerary

Day 01
Kathmandu | Lhasa
Transfer to the airport in time to catch your flight to Lhasa. This one hour flight is one of the most spectacular you will ever see, flying over the highest mountain range on earth with excellent views of the peaks, including Mount Everest.

Upon arrival at Gonggar airport you will be met by our representative. The rest of the day is free to acclimatize to the altitude.

Day 02- B
Lhasa
Plunge into this amazing city: Visit the Sera monastery, one of the best preserved monasteries in Tibet. After lunch take a look at Norbulingka Park, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. Then you will see the Jokhang Temple, an unrivalled Tibetan experience: Assimilate the smell of Yak butter and the murmur of mantras. The temple is surrounded by the Barkhor market, where you will stroll through the busy lanes that seem to have resisted all invasions of the modern world.

Day 03 – B
Lhasa
Today you will visit the spectacular Potala Palace. It is the most striking landmark in Lhasa and an architectural wonder. You will remember the sight of this fort-like palace for the rest of your life. The palace contains the private quarters of the Dalai Lama and numerous staterooms. After lunch, visit the Drepung Monastery, once one of the largest in the world with 10,000 monks.

Day 04 –B
Lhasa | Gyantse
Take a breathtakingly beautiful journey by jeep along the Friendship Highway. Cross high mountain passes, view stunning scenery including the colourful Yamdrok Lake and the summit of Nazin Kang Sa (7,252m). Visit the famous Kumbum Stupa: 35m high with a crown-like golden dome it is truly awe-inspiring. Afterwards have a look at Phalkor Monastery with its fine paintings and statues. Later climb up to Gyantse Dzong, a 14th century fort, to enjoy breathtaking views of the whitewashed buildings of the town.

Day 05 – B
Gyantse | Shigatse
En route to Shigatse visit Shalu Monastery. It dates from the 11th century and is a marvellous sight and of cultural importance. Note the 14 century murals which fuse Chinese, Mongol and Nepalese styles. Shigatse is the second largest city in Tibet, don’t forget to visit its local markets. Another thing Shigatse has to offer is the Tashilumpu Monastery, which is one of the few monasteries to have survived the Cultural Revolution. It is big enough to be a walled town in its own and busy, cobbled lanes twist around the old buildings. The monastery is seat to the Panchen Lama, the second most important spiritual leader of Tibet.

Day 06 – B
Shigatse | Tsetang
Today you will drive to Tsetang. See stunning views of Gangpo Ri. This mountain holds a special significance for Tibetans, as it is the mountain believed to be the birthplace of the Tibetan people.

Day 07 – B

Take an excursion to Yarlung Valley, the “Cradle of Tibetan civilisation”, for a full day of sightseeing.
