Himalayan Footsteps

Madhya Pradesh Holidays

Destinations

Madhya Pradesh is yet quite undiscovered by travellers, despite its many fine sights: The state is home to several National Parks, some of the last refuges of the Bengal Tiger. In Kanha National Park – the original site of the Jungle Books -, Bandhavgarh and other National parks you can come eye to eye with Shir Khan during an elephant safari.

Temple on Gwalior FortThe sights of Madhya Pradesh do not end with National Parks – the state can tell of a long and varied history and is rich in cultural heritage: Great palaces tell of the splendor of old times, impressive forts tower over the stunning landscape. The temple town of Khajuraho draws many visitors each year for the erotic carvings across the ancient temples. Many deserted towns and the nature reserves make Madhya Pradesh a welcome change from the overcrowded cities elsewhere in India.

You will find signs of all phases of India’s history in Madhya Pradesh, from some of the oldest cities in India to modernity. The state is a feast for explorers looking for prehistoric paintings, historic and religious buildings and tribal culture, while at the same time offering a break from tourist crowds at the better known attractions of India.
